Top Tennis Coaches Guiding Top Junior Tennis Players
July 27-31 was a big weekend for a lot of USTA Mid-Atlantic junior tennis players. And a big weekend for coach Jeremy Carl! Jeremy was selected to coach the Mid-Atlantic top 12 ranked Junior Boys and Girls in 16 under age division at the USTA Zone Team Championships (Zonals), L2 National Level Tournamnt. The five-day national team competition emphasized singles, doubles and mixed doubles play against teams from other USTA sections. As with all team championships and tournaments, the goal is to provide a platform and location for play that encourages a passion for tennis, teamwork and some healthy competition. But this tournament is especially designed to give players an idea of what college tennis will be like.
Zonals is a prestigious event made up of the top junior boys and girls age 16 and under. Only highly ranked players can compete. The match results from the championship tournament count for National and Eastern Section standings. Coach Jeremy’s team, Mid-Atlantic B, went undefeated in team play, making its way to the Championship Round. In the Finals they nabbed a shiny silver for second place. One of Jeremy’s players, Kenneth Boyette, also won the Day 3 Sportsmanship Award.

It’s also an honor for the top tennis coaches chosen to participate in the Zonals tournaments. To qualify, coaches must be USPTA or USPTR certified, or a College/University Coach, or have participated in the USTA High Performance Coaches Education Program. They also need at least two years of coaching experience with High Performance tennis juniors. We all know Jeremy is more than qualified, but it’s great to see the USTA Mid-Atlantic section agrees!
