tennis charity event. This event is held every October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and October 2016 was our whopping 11th year!

The club has raised over $136,000 for the cause since it began hosting the event in 2006. Swing for Pink funds are used directly in the local community, specifically at the Breast Care Institute at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and the Inova Alexandria Hospital Cancer Center.

Local Funds for Local Families in Need

What’s unique about this fundraiser is that the funds raised from the Alexandria community go directly to local families who are fighting breast cancer and seeking care.  Whether the patient needs money for rent and utilities after the expense of medical treatments, or help getting to appointments, the funds raised by MTVAC go directly towards helping those who need it most.

We Couldn’t Do it Without the Alexandria VA Fitness Sponsors & Supporters!

A true community event, the Swing for Pink fundraiser is put on by Mount Vernon Athletic Club, generous sponsors and local supporters.  Activities include a tennis round robin, silent auction, dinner, wine tasting, 50/50 raffle, free childcare and more. This year the primary event sponsor was Joan Van Metre along with host sponsor Kihomac, Inc. Additional Swing For Pink Silent Auction Items at Mount Vernon Athletic Clubmajor sponsors included: Solutions Physical Therapy and Sports MedicineUnited Bank, The Carol Farquhar Family, Blue Chip Tennis Academy, Rex Reiley of Re-Max Allegiance Group, and Dr. Brian Bodnar of Bodnar Chiropractic.

Events like these really bring out the best in our community. A special thank you goes out to Gordon and Anita Murchie and the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association for providing the wines and personally overseeing the wine tasting portion of the evening. Their continued support over the last 11 years is inspiring! And thank you to MTVAC member Stephanie Melvin of  Wisteria Florals whose stunning floral arrangements always lend beauty and elegance to the evening.
