The Results Are In for MTVAC Member Tom Pardini
It’s official – Tom Pardini raced against dogs, children and skirt-clad athletes to finish the 8 Tuff Miles race in St. John. Coming in at 1:31:16, Tom ran at a 10:54 per mile pace and was in the top third of all runners. “I finished!!!” exclaimed Tom. “I was beaten by a small dog with a knee brace, a woman in a two-toned purple tutu, a man in a kilt, and at least 10 children under 12 years old.”
The 8 Tuff Miles race takes place every year on the beautiful St. John island, part of the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. Tom set out not just to complete the race, but to raise money and awareness for a good cause.
MTVAC Helps Tom to Raise Over $6,500 for GSH!
Definitely the greatest result of all was the amount of money Tom was able to fundraise with the support of his MTVAC family. Over $6,500 will be donated to Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services (GSH), going towards reducing homelessness, increasing community support, and promoting self-sufficiency for low-income families in housing crisis. Known as one of the best community non-profits in the region, GSH received the 2013 Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management.
Running Down a Rum Recipe
Now that the race is complete and Tom has his beer bottle opener medal in hand, he’s on a quest to recuperate and rehydrate with the best rum punch St. John can mix up. He’s promised to be diligent in his search and share the winning recipe with us. Check the blog and Facebook for updates, pictures and a liquid concoction that’s sure to help with the winter weather blues!
“Thank you MTVAC for supporting me in my 8 Tuff Miles Race for Good Shepherd Housing & Family Services. The run itself was ‘tuff,’ but with your support I carried on.” –Tom Pardini
