Mount Vernon Athletic Club Raises $5K to Alexandria Children’s Charity Alice’s Kids
Mount Vernon Athletic Club GM Dimitris Kollaros Facilitated a Recent Fundraiser that resulted in a $5,350 gift for Alice’s Kids
Van Metre Companies, parent company of Mount Vernon Athletic Club, has awarded more than five thousand dollars to Alice’s Kids, a local non-profit organization that provides short term financial assistance to children with an immediate need.
Ron Fitzsimmons is an MTVAC member and founder of Alice’s Kids. He discussed his organization with General Manager Dimitris Kollaros, who recognized an opportunity for both the club and parent company (Van Metre) to get involved in fundraising efforts. A last minute March Madness Bracket Challenge for Charity was organized to help raise funds at the club level. A request at the corporate level was made to receive funds from the Van Metre Foundation, the charitable arm of the Van Metre Companies.
“It has been an honor to work for a company that is so willing to give back to the community and a true joy to work in a place where a long-time, valued member like Ron Fitzsimmons can ask for help and our members embrace the opportunity. The amount of heart involved in this recent gift is humbling.” -Dimitris Kollaros, MTVAC General Manager
Mount Vernon Athletic Club truly cares about its members and its community. This fundraiser comes on the heels of MTVAC’s signature event, Swing for Pink. Held every October for 11 years now, the social tennis and fundraising event has raised more than $136,000 for local breast cancer research and treatment facilities in Virginia.
Without its members, there is no Mount Vernon Athletic Club. Along with Van Metre Companies, the two organizations strive to do what they can to keep the community strong. Contributing to and promoting the good work of Alice’s Kids aligns with that mission.
About Alice’s Kids
Relying on referrals from school staff, charitable organizations, government social workers and churches, Alice’s Kids provides a gift card worth between $25-50 to the referring agent to pass on to the child so they are able to purchase the needed item. The process is totally anonymous in support of one of the key goals of the program, raising the self-esteem of a child in need. Alice’s Kids is founded on the belief that a little help can go a long way. The organization hopes to have a profound impact as children with a healthy self-esteem feel good about themselves, do better in school and are more successful.
