MTVAC Tennis Alum Catapults to the Top of USTA Mid-Atlantic Ranks
Former MTVAC tennis player Ryan Colby has a lot to be proud of. Not only is he a straight A student taking courses years above his grade level, but he’s ranking high in the USTA Mid-Atlantic with almost two years left in his age division! Ryan was ranked number three in Doubles and number 12 in singles before leaving the 12s division. His is now in the top 10 in the 14s.
USTA Mid-Atlantic Player and Sportsman
This past summer, Ryan was one of only three boys in the nation to finish in the quarters and better in singles AND doubles in both National Hard Courts and National Clay Courts. This won him the coveted silver and bronze balls in doubles. But what is most inspiring is how he played. Three hours into his quarters match it was tied up 2-all and he served a beautiful ace-out wide. His opponent called the serve out and the chaired referee overruled the call, in favor of Ryan. Ryan walked to the net and took a hard look, then told the chaired referee “No sir, my serve was out.” He ended up losing the match but was awarded the United States Sportsmanship Award for outstanding character on and off the court.
Bright Beginnings Lead to a Future of Opportunities
After starting his USTA Mid-Atlantic tennis career at MTVAC and Blue Chip Tennis Academy, Ryan and his family made the tough decision to leave Saint Stephens. Ryan is now training full time at College Park, Maryland. But MTVAC has a special place in Ryan’s heart.
“It’s my first tennis home, where I found my love for the game and how to play. MTVAC has literally changed my life.” -Ryan Colby, USTA Mid-Atlantic Top Ranked Player
Now, Ryan is looking to the future. With strong academics and a work ethic beyond his years, Ryan has already set his sights on playing tennis at Stamford or the University of Virginia. With a five-star recruit rank, he’s certainly on the road to success! Everyone at MTVAC and BCTA are keeping an eye on this tennis star and wishing him all the best!
