MTVAC Personal Trainer Puts Physical Training Skills to the Test at Wanderlust Triathlon
Last month, MTVAC Assistant General Manager, Personal Trainer and Group Fitness instructor Gretchen Thompson competed in the Wanderlust 108 Triathlon after both mental and physical training. MTVAC members and friends joined Gretchen in the triathlon, held in Washington D.C.
Wanderlust: Not Your Typical Physical Training for a Triathlon
Take everything you thought you knew about triathlons and put that aside because Wanderlust 108 is not your typical triathlon!
This 1-day event is held across the country (and world), serving as a way to celebrate the mindfulness movement.
The triathlon has three parts:
- First, participants are encouraged to walk or run, prance or skip, stroll or strut their way to the finish line of a 5K.
- The walk or run is followed by a 90-minute yoga flow session – underscored by a DJ!
- The third event is perhaps the most challenging: a 30-minute guided meditation session to clear the mind and relax the body.
If one day isn’t enough to reboot your body, the organization also offers multi-day festivals that center on the same theme.

Health And Fitness Is More Than Just A Job
When Gretchen isn’t completing a triathlon or running the Crew Program as Head Coach at Forest Park High School, she can be found teaching a variety of physical training courses at MTVAC.
On any given day, Gretchen teaches up to four classes, including the Les Mills signature Body Pump class, cycle, ball flexibility and low impact aerobics. She also runs the Intensity Camp twice a week. Then there’s all the personal training. And it doesn’t stop there: she regularly attends classes and conferences to stay current with all of the latest fitness trends. Gretchen’s a true fitness role model!
