Professional Tennis Coach Kelly Sykes Named PTR Young Professional of the Year

Last month, MTVAC professional tennis coach Kelly Sykes was named Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Young Professional of the Year! The award was given at the International Tennis Symposium in Hilton Head Island, SC.

At PTR Awards, Young Professional of the Year Winner – Kelly Sykes, former MTVAC Tennis Pro – Jeremy Carl, MTVAC Tennis Pro and Founder of BCSM – Tim Bainton

The award was presented by the Professional Tennis Registry, the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals, at its annual event held February 13-16, 2018.

The four-day symposium included more than 40 educational presentations for tennis pros and coaches, a Tennis Trade Show with demo courts and a tournament for coaches to compete.

Kelly is the only professional tennis coach at MTVAC to win this award, it comes as no surprise to Tim Bainton, Executive Director of Blue Chip Tennis.“This is well deserved as a result of his tireless effort to improve through continuing education and networking within the industry,” Tim commented.

Get to Know Kelly Sykes

Professional Tennis Coach Kelly Teaching Kids Tennis CampKelly joined the MTVAC family in 2011 after coaching at the Lee District Recreation center for seven years. He offered private lessons to all ages and skill levels, in addition to providing tennis instruction for seasonal camps and year-round clinics.

Prior to becoming a professional tennis coach, he played tennis all four years for Edison High School in Alexandria, VA. Here, he was voted overall MVP (athlete of the year) for the 2012-2013 school year and was ranked fifth in the district for tennis. He continued to play in college for Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.

Kelly’s love of the game prompted him to coach. He worked at the Salamander Resort in Middleburg, VA, as a Resident Tennis Professional, and joined the coaching staff at Fredrick Country Parks and Recreation, where he instructed junior and adults for the ParalympicsLast Spring, he was also an instructor at Gainesville Tennis Academy and USTA Special Olympics Florida.
